The Old Brewery is available for selected dates.

Prices start at:

The Old Brewery in the hamlet of Cowgill deep in Yorkshire's most westerly dale where the River Dee carves through flower-filled meadows beneath towering fells. This substantial four-bedroom house sleeps seven guests and sits in the heart of Dentdale, surrounded by some of the Yorkshire Dales' most spectacular walking country. The building retains hints of its brewing heritage while offering modern comforts throughout, from the woodburner-warmed kitchen/diner to the generous bedrooms that catch morning light streaming down the valley. A sun room adds extra living space, and the utility room handles all the muddy gear that comes with serious fell exploration.

Dent village has two real ale pubs, three cafes, village store & The Heritage Centre into its cobbled streets. Adam Sedgwick's marble memorial stands in the village centre, commemorating the geologist who put this place on the scientific map, while the Heritage Centre tells stories of marble quarrying and knitting that kept families fed through harsh winters.

The Dales Way runs right past the front door - you could literally fall out of bed and onto one of England's most famous long-distance paths. Some drop down to waterfalls hidden in the limestone clefts, others march you up onto the fells whether you're ready or not. The railway viaducts at Dent Head and Ribblehead are proper Victorian show-offs - huge stone arches carrying trains across valleys that seemed impossible to cross. The Settle-Carlisle line still runs through daily, and you can hear the diesels working hard on the gradients. Whernside sits there waiting if you fancy bagging Yorkshire's second-highest peak.

Sedbergh's worth a browse if you like books - they've got more second-hand bookshops than seems reasonable for a town that size. The Lake District starts just down the road, so you could nip over to Windermere for a change of scenery. Ingleton has those waterfall walks everyone raves about, and if you're feeling masochistic, the Three Peaks challenge kicks off from Ribblehead station. Whether you're following ancient drove roads across the fells, exploring limestone caves, or simply watching the changing light play across Dentdale's meadows from the sun room, this self-catering accommodation places you at the heart of some of England's most unspoiled countryside.
